REPORT ON PMPL TRIPLES COMPETITION
As I sit here compiling this report it's raining and cold outside and I realise how lucky we were with the weather yesterday although it didn't seem so at the time when for the last 90 minutes we were huddled under umbrellas watching the two finals trying to keep warm and dry!

We expected to struggle for teams as soon as we were advised that the EPA had scheduled the Home Nations' qualifiers on the same day that we had chosen for our Triples at the start of the season; we were so wrong because you all rallied round and we had 16 teams all raring to go on what was a bright but cold and windy morning.

The morning session was a 3 round snake and the afternoon was a straight but seeded knockout.

Only two teams went through the morning unbeaten and it was fitting that they eventually met in the main final and there was also three teams that didn't win a game but I will spare them their embarrassment by not naming them (us)!

The Main semi-finals saw Babylis play Calm B4 Storm and Exchequers play Bucks Z and I think it's safe to say that Bucks Z spectacularly blew their chances by losing after being 12-2 up.

A very tight final was eventually won by Babylis (Toni Gates, Tony Richards and Andy Goodship) who beat Exchequers (Bev Fordham, Brian Howarth and Derek Northend); the standard of play in trying overhead conditions was very high but perhaps the rain contributed to an easier piste compared to the fiery ones we had all experienced during the day.

In the Plate competition semi-finals Ouse 1 played RAM and Plough played Yellow Hammers; the final saw Plough (Neil Dilley, Gordon Ansell and Martin Wallace) continue their good form in the afternoon (and improve on their poor start in the morning where they only won one game) and they powered their way past Ouse 1 to win comfortably; Ouse 1 (Maurice Sanders, Steve and Antony Carter) picked up yet another PMPL trophy but this time only the runners up.

We were very pleased how the whole day went and all games were played in a wonderful but competitive spirit and we would like to thank all of you who took part.

Finally a special thanks to Richard Holland who took over the running of the competition on the day and to lain Lewis and Anne Steward for providing all the pistes etc on behalf of Ickleford PC
