Forfeits
Forfeits apply when a fixture is not played and the Committee
considers that one of the Teams involved is the 'Guilty Party'.
In all the Leagues currently covered by the website, the guilty Team
receives no score for the Match. The 'Innocent Team' receives a score
as laid down in the League Constitution or Match Rules.
In one possible system the Innocent Team scores
1 match win, 5 game wins and 65 points
while the Guilty Team gets no score.
While this system rewards the Innocent Team at the expense of the Guilty, it also
does it at expense to all the uninvolved and hence innocent Teams. It is
unfair and encourages unscrupulous teams to make no effort to re-schedule Matches.
In another system the Innocent Team scores the
Average of all its other Match scores
while the Guilty Team gets no score.
This system is difficult to re-calculation as the
season progresses if done by hand but is simple for the computer. It encourages Innocent Teams to improve their
performance and hence the worth of the forfeit.
Other systems can be applied but in all cases the reported score is
9 99 00 if the Innocent Team is
the Home Team or 9 00 99
if it is the Away.
