REPORT ON PMPL DOUBLES
26 Teams pre-registered and in spite of the certainty of heavy rain all turned up – what a fantastic turn-out and a credit to the league as a whole; this sort of response makes our life on the committee far easier and worthwhile.
Practice began in light drizzle and just as we were ready to get playing the heavens opened and it rained until lunch which was taken after the morning session; the front pistes began to flood; the score board began to get almost impossible to read and everybody was glad to retire to the bar to dry out.
The morning session was a 3 round snake and 5 teams went through the morning unbeaten, the surprise package being Memphis Belle (Amanda & Gareth) who ended up second seeds.
The top 16 went through in to the main competition where the draw was seeded and the remainder in to the plate where the draw was random.
The plate final was between Dumb & Dumber and S & S and home advantage told in the end as the former (Gordon & Neil) won 13-7.
The match of the day was definitely the semi between Double Depresso and M & M's; DD (Paolo & Pete) stormed to a 12-3 lead only to be pegged back by some top quality boule to eventually lose to Matt & Miles.
Matt & Miles then proved too strong for Kino der Blakeman (Ben & Sam) in the final to win 13-5.
A big thank you to all players, none of which quit because of the foul weather which did improve dramatically in the afternoon, and to the Plough PH and players for their hard work in preparing the pistes, and looking after us all during the day.
Attached to this report is the cup draw that was carried out during the lunch break.
