The Three Shires Pétanque League
This was the original Greene King League in the district. It was started
with a nucleus of BPA players from the Pennant Midweek League to provide
more local competition. The formal committee structure allowed the league
to run with little GK help, until finally it obtained other sponsors. It used to change its
name to reflect new sponsors but has decided on a neutral name but gives
grateful recognition to sponsors by incorporating their names, logos
etc on all website pages and flyers and a URL on each League page.
It is open to any Club within 15 miles of its HQ at The Engine, Baldock. Note: The Committee reserves the right to increase this limit slightly if it helps to promote pétanque in the district.
All Clubs in the league must be affiliated to the EPA, but there is no direct requirement for all players to hold EPA Licences. However, the EPA have required at least three members of Affiliated Clubs to hold Licences. This small requirement was normally covered by players already holding licences to allow play in other EPA events/leagues.
However this small requirement has recently been increased to 6 members -- meaning that, for small Clubs, most players will now need to hold EPA Licences.
It is suggested that any small Club having difficulty with this new requirement should discuss their situation with the Three Shires Pétanque League Committee.
Players may use leisure or DOG boules during the 1st year in the league.
The four divisions are competitive with Clubs being promoted and relegated each year.
